Dear Mr. Assange,
I really admire what you are trying to do, revealing the truth to people, the truth you
strongly believes every person has the right to learn. Although the
importance of revealing the truth was the main point of your speech
at the New Media Order conference in Istanbul, there were two other
points you made which I vehemently disagree.
You said that Turkish media had to change in some ways which you are right but you
continued on by saying that the Turkish media had to change by
starting to give Kurdish writers their rights. I believe that you are
wrong in this: Turkish media has to change by giving all
the writers the freedom to speak their own mind, not imprisoning them
or making them quit. Nowadays, lots of journalists are in prison.
Many (colleagues and human rights organizations) suspect that that
it’s because they wrote things that are against the government.
Giving freedom to these journalists is the first thing that has to
change in the Turkish media.
Secondly, you said that the lies cause wars between nations and the truth will cause peace. I
think this is very utopian. To be realistic, every nation wants to be
an economical super power, the strongest country on the world, but
they never say this out loud. They all lie by saying that their
dream is to have peace on the world. If every country starts to tell
the truth, like you dream of and wish for, the result would be
nothing but utter chaos.
Dear Mr Assange, however much I appreciate what you are doing for the media, I do not think
you are realistic enough for our times.
