News of the World was a newspaper that has tapped into peoples’ phones and learned secret information about them illegally. But even if it was illegal some people believe that the people who did it believed in discovering the truth.
I, on the contrary, believe that what they have done was ethically wrong because the sentence ‘’your freedom ends where another’s starts’’ should apply to journalism too. It might be more ethical if a policemen or a person whose duty is serving the law did it, but a yellow newspaper tapping in to peoples phones just to learn their secrets and use it even for their advantage is wrong.
The owner of News of the World, Rupert Murdoch closed down the newspaper after this event and fired all the workers. I think it’s a good move because since the structure of this newspaper was based on phone tapping, there would have been no way to go gain back the trust of readers and get back the once honorable reputation of the past.
