The Occupy Wall Street movement is a very big step for young people who suffer because of financial problems and slightly older people with no jobs. When this move had started is hard to tell but it is certainly is very effective.
Some people were expecting something to crop up like this but they could never tell when. Even we cannot tell now. However about 5 years ago John Perkins wrote a novel about a similar topic of a search for justice and he said that America’s population is 5% of the entire world’s population but they consume 30% of all world’s resources. What’s sad about it is that they don’t even use these resources for their own people. So this issue existed 5 years ago and possibly even longer than that but we are introduced with their significance nowadays.
Traditional media doesn’t seem to care about the news at first. Most people came against it by saying that these rebellions are not “disciplined” and they do not know what they are talking about. People who said that are probably a part of the 1%. I do not agree with these people. People who attend this movement call themselves the 99%. They believe that 99% of them are suffering and only 1% of the society is lucky. That is why what they want is justice. I believe that it’s very easy for people who are not economically in a bad situation to judge this movement so harshly. They don’t understand what’s going on after all, since they’re not suffering from the same problem. In the latest developments, this movement spread around in hundreds of other cities who had the same problem.
Since traditional media didn’t care about this at first, Occupy Wall Street Movement’s biggest helper turned out to be social and digital media. People tweeted their thoughts and they asked for more support. They even have their own tumblr accounts where they share some of their problems. A part of these rebellious people gathered in a park where they put up tents and brought internet connection so that they would protest and ask for support at the same time. Police could not do anything about it since the park is a special property and does not belong to the government. When the amount of people who complained about the same problem increased, the government started to become less ignorant. So did the traditional media.
People who didn’t have the same problem had a hard time realizing what’s really going on. One of the counselors of the White House explained that they support this movement and they agree with all the protests and they will soon begin to do anything in their power to rebuild the American Dream. That is again, hopeful but easy to say. People put up thousands of slogans to show how much they want justice. For example, one of the slogans I liked the most was:
“The corrupt fear us,
The honest support us,
The heroic join us.”
