Newsweek is a well respected and well known magazine, 2nd best selling in US, pompously in the news sector since 80 years. Last year in December, they announced that they will no more exist in printed version.
Newsweek’s radical transitioning away from the traditional style of news onto a new completely digital and virtual sense of journalism was a shock to everyone.
There were both positive and negative feelings towards this switch. Some believed old, traditional way is better and easier, other prefer the new system because it is more convenient.
Some, on the other hand, did not support the switch saying that there was no comparing to read a book by smelling, turning pages rather then reading it online. Having something solid in your hand gave a different perspective to the reader. It created a different mood and some people could only read books that way. ‘’It may be old school and traditional but traditions make us who we are today.’’
Others believed that reading a book on the internet is easier, more accessible and better. ‘’Internet is the worlds’ biggest library, and it contains huge amount of information.’’ Therefore you can find any book you want just with a simple research. If you can get used to the idea it can be quiet useful.
Just after a few weeks though, and following huge pressure from the readers, the smell of the paper was voted priceless and the management decided to ‘’come back’’ in print as of March 2013.
