We discussed in our lesson this term that a leader, first of all, has to convince the people. A leader cannot become the leader of a country if he or she doesn’t convince the public, the people who are going to decide whether that person is chosen to lead that country or not. For example, Hitler convinced the people of Germany that one biggest problem of Germany that day, the poorness of Germans would be solved. That’s why he was chosen by the Germans. Also, a leader has to have an authority over the media. Although, I believe that the leader of a country shouldn’t have a control over the media. I believe that the leader should only control the truthiness of the n
ews that the media is reporting. That should be the only authority that the leader has over media. But, of course, this authority might be misused. If Richard Nixon had the chance to know about the news on the Watergate Scandal before it was on the news reports, he would most likely do everything he can to stop that news.
Another issue we discussed this term was that people should trust media and media should trust people. People must trust the media to believe the news that they learn by media. For example, in China, the government has a full control over the media. They are controlling all of the news that
the people in China read. How can the citizens of China trust the things they read on newspapers or see on television? How can they know that the media is hiding something because the government doesn’t want people to learn that? They can’t. Also, media should have a trust over the people. If they don’t why would they air the news? For example, I believe that Julian Assange trust his target. He trusts that his target would do something, would act for their rights, when they read the documents that he shows in his website. I he didn’t trust his target market, why would he bother to show them?
Lastly, people, media, and leaders have something in common: Freedom. Leaders should give freedom to his or her citizens. Citizens should have their own rights, such as voting etc. Moreover, a leader should give freedom to media. Media should be able to air any news that they are certain of its truthiness and that will benefit the public.
