After 27 years, when Coca-Cola was first released, a cancer warning is placed on their famous red bottles.
The state of California declared that one of the ingredients of Coca-Cola carried carcinogen, and under Californian law, drinks containing a certain level of carcinogens must have a cancer-warning label on their packaging.
For the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences in the US, the ingredients in coke, named 4-MEI (caramel flavouring) and the chemical 4-methylimidazole, can cause cancer and leukaemia in rats.
However Coca-Cola company retains that their secret formula is perfectly safe. But US Food and Drug Administration stated that a person who would have to drink 1,000 cans of Pepsi or Coke per day, would ingest the same dosage of the chemical given to the laboratory mice.
