There were 20 highschool teams and 108 university teams to compete with each other in the Boğaziçi Debate Tournament. Açı A Team (Nathan Candaner & Dağlar Özkan) had a great success and came 3rd in the high school listing. Açı D Team (Rahime İsmetova & Atakan Paksoy) also debated with great success and came 9th in the high school listing.
It was a great pleasure to see that high school students were able to slam a diversity of teams and achieve a higher hand on the acclaimed universities. The subjects such as ‘’Central Bank’’ and ‘’Early Elections’’ debated by university students majoring in finance and political science made the challenge even tougher and the accomplishment even more tasty.
Swing A Team (Can Aşardağ & Eymir Yılmaz) came 10th in high school listings while Açı C Team (Suay Özgür & Sıla Dinç) came 16th and Açı Gronland Team (Ayşe Erman & Pınar İnan) came 20th. Teaming with different schools (like Can teaming up with Eymir from Robert College) seemed to create problems in the tabbing. All the Açı teams threatened to leave the tournament if their school mates were not to compete with them. The tournament admins rose to the bait and all the teams competed. True rookies Suay and Sıla did extremely well considering that they were 9th graders and in a competition for the first time, except for the time when they announced that Turkey was not a capitalist country J.
