Antony Evans is the co-founder of the Glowing Plant project, in San Francisco, a synthetic biology application using bioluminescent to make plants glow in the dark. Unlike the European Union, the US does not ‘clearly’ regulate the approach that is used by Antony’s team, and his project did spark a heated debate in the US. He has two other partners in this project who are also scientists. They synthetically take genes from one organism and inject it to another. This has proven the potential of biotechnology. By doing this experiment, they have changed a tree’s DNA and have made it glow in the dark.
