Every four years since 1960 , UEFA holds European Football Championship . The final tournament will be hosted by Poland and Ukraine between June 8 and July 1, 2012.The joint Poland – Ukraine hosting was chosen by UEFA’s Executive Committee on 18 April 2007, in Cardiff, Wales.
This tournament had started with eight teams but now there are sixteen teams.This will be the last tournament that only sixteen nations will compete. As of 2016, twenty-four nations will be competing in the The UEFA European Football Championship .The final tournament’s tickets will go on sale on March 1, 2011, and will likely be sold out by the next day.
The play off matches begin two years before the finals .Teams play home and away games and may qualify for the final tournament or go on to more play-off games.
The bidding fort he place to host the 2012 Euro started with seven countries, where some countries joined forces to increase their chances of winning, bringing down the bid to a short list of five countries. Greece, Italy, Turkey, Poland/Ukraine (joint bid), and Croatia/Hungary (also joint bid) competed.
In April 2007 the joint bid of Poland/Ukraine won the bid to host the championship with eight votes. The host countries, Ukraine and Poland, will have new stadiums as well as many upgraded facilitiesfor the tournament. You can see some of the pictures below.
