I hardly remember buying anything in virtue of seeing an advert. I believe adverts are used to force us to buy things that we do not need. However, we all live in a shopping society and we are bombarded daily by tons of information via internet, our mobile phones, newspapers, billboards and so on.
We need to have a professional know-how on how to avoid all this junk info.
I always zap to other channels on tv when the commercial comes on but only end up flicking around because the other channels too are showing ads at the same time.
I am sure we all remember being so annoyed by the interruption of our most popular soap opera or a film by a stupid commercial break. It is a fact that commercials reduce the pleasure of watching, but they are here to stay!
So learn to live with them, as our favourite tv programmes wouldn’t exist without
commercials and vice versa.
Some people would argue that we all developed some kind of immunity to advertising as there is too much of it. They would argue that it became ineffective, pointless and just pure annoying. More importantly ,we never buy anything just because it was advertised.
Is that so? Experts argue that this may be less true then you think. We see an ad and seemingly forget it. However it stays in our mind and effects our future purchase decisions even without us knowing it. How many of us does not have things dusting away in our cupboards and garages?
That is why the producers are pouring billions into advertising for their products and services. Let’s take a look at beauty and slimming products;
We all watch those commercials either at home ,in a cinema ,via internet or in a magazine in which possibly a famous actress or a gorgeous looking model is using the wonder products, be it a facial cream or a quick fix slimming product. The message to us is loud and clear, if you use our product, you too could be looking or at least feeling like this?
This message is rubbed into our brain, time and time again, and most of us end up buying the products !
We all do this in spite of the fact that spending money on beauty products that promise to give you a better hair and skin are generally waste of money.
Following are some of the top beauty products practically ineffective for solving the problem.
1-Cellulite reduction; there is no proven cream or lotion that will fix this problem.
2-Hair growth products; most of it do not work
3-Wonder facial creams; none of it solve the real skin problems; wrinkles etc.
4-Slimming pills; total nonsense
There is no real evidence that any of the above products works. While it may sound promising and make sense, scientific evidence is just not there!
In spite of this, sales of these products run into billions of dollars and rising. Without proper knowledge it is very easy to be taken by glitzy advertising, friendly sales people and products that sounds too good to be true.
The main problem is very limited governmental regulation of the industry allows them to make almost any beauty claim without requiring proof.
So buyer beware.
