Throughout the time most of the countries have been presented by their own cultures and their own value systems, which includes reflections of values in lifestyle, history, army, politics etc. Today Chinese value system becomes one of the most interesting at the same time most debatable system. The reason for this is because Chinese value system is mostly based on Confucianism (considered an old tradition) . On the other hand globalizing countries like China is innovating rapidly, which brings a conflict in to the environment.
First of all Confucianism is an ethical and philosophical system developed from the teachings of the Chinese philosopher Confucius. Confucianism became the official state ideology of the Han Dynasty. Since then every single Chinese leader collate Confucianism and the modern values. For example Han Dynasty member (former leader) Wu Ti is known for his army policies based on Confucius’ teachings.
“A book holds a house of gold.” says ancient Chinese statement. This statement directly makes a point that education is one of the most important matters in China. ‘
Education is most highly esteemed in Chinese society.’ ‘ This value can be traced to the Confucian concept that “he who excels in learning can be an official.” Student s att end school six days per week and often study late into the night. They consider this their duty to show honor to the parents and family.’
Moreover Confucianism also mentors of most Chinese people in the past two thousand years. For example most of the Chinese families still come together as one and considers about their basic lives. As Confucius refers in his previous speeches: the importance of consideration about life. In addition to that today almost %60 of Chinese people design their lifestyle based on Confucianism.
However, the strictest rules of Confucianism have been changed due of globalizing, social media and Internet usage also the traveling opportunities. Now almost %40 of Chinese population especially in bigger cities in China such as Beijing lives fully modern life same as Europeans. But those who is not either defender of both sides, stays neutral. Which solidifies the conflicting environment.
As a result we can see lots of reflections of Confucius in modern Chinese life. Some people combines the old and the new value system or some just stick to either one of them. Consequently as the world we live in changes so does our value systems. China may seem the most ‘ closed’ country but even they are changing. Value changes do not happen so fast, as it is now happening in China.
