Islamophobia is one of the most important barriers between the east and the west. This causes non-Muslims (mostly Christians) to be afraid of Muslims without knowing the true nature of most of the Muslim community. This prejudice is usually caused by terrorist organizations, such as the Al-Qaida, instilling fear through suicide bombings or broadcasting executions live on TV.
A lot of the Islamophobia in the United States has been caused by the 9-11 attacks. Some western countries resort to propaganda methods to cause hate and fear towards the Islamic community in order to gain more support for their campaigns. For example, America did this when they were getting ready to launch their campaign against Iraq. The governments of these countries are not always the driving force for these anti-Islam campaigns. A recent example of this is the people of New York protesting the building of an Islamic Community Center and mosque near Ground Zero. If this continues to affect the western world this way, the barrier between the east and the west could forever have a prominent effect.
In order to diminish this fear, countries close to the west such as Turkey are trying to ease such barriers by showing the west that the Islamic communities are human as well, and just like the rest of the world. Turkey is proving this through exhibitions, sports, and music contests. For example, Turkey won the Eurovision for the first time in 2003. This proved to the West that an Islamic woman is just as normal as any other. Any Muslim can participate in a Western contest and win it. In contrast to what some racist Westerners say, Islamic people are not barbarians.
Another important point that must be made in order to stop this is its racist aspects. Some people in positions of power in the west provoke the public for selfish reasons to make them anti-Islamic. For the good of half the world’s populations, these people should be more civilized in their approach, and see the world for what it is. These people are one of the main reasons of the rising amounts of Islamophobia.
The holocaust was one of the darkest moments of human history. Jewish people were executed just because of their religion. The reason was just a few men sitting at the top giving the commands.
If we don’t end things like this soon, the fear of other religions, nationalities, and even skin colors will turn into hate, and hate will end in suffering.
